EMPLOYER SPONSORED VISAS

Subclass 186DE
EMPLOYER SPONSORED (Permanent Visa)

For visa applicants that have an employer in Australia willing to sponsor you for permanent residency on the basis of your skills, qualifications and experience that cannot be easily sourced in Australia

 

Basic Eligibility:

  • Have an employer willing to sponsor you for permanent residency

  • Be under the age of 45 (unless exempt) 

  • Obtain a positive skills assessment for an occupation on the sc186 skills list

  • Have competent English

  • Hold qualifications required for nominated occupation

  • Minimum of 3 years experience in your nominated occupation

  • Satisfy health & character requirements

  • Meet mandatory licensing, registration or membership requirements

  • Apply within 6 months of your employers nomination approval

Subclass 482
TEMPORARY SKILL SHORTAGE (Temporary Visas)

For visa applicants that have an employer in Australia willing to sponsor you temporarily for a position in Australia on the basis of your skills, qualifications and experience that cannot be easily sourced in Australia

This temporary visa provides a period of stay between 1 to 4 years depending on your current skill set and/or the number of years your employer is willing to sponsor you.

​

A pathway to permanent residency may be available for certain occupations after a 3 year period

Basic Eligibility:

  • Have an employer willing to sponsor you

  • No age limit

  • Obtain a positive skills assessment IF required for your occupation

  • Have competent English

  • Hold qualifications required for nominated occupation (where applicable)

  • Have a minimum of  2 years experience in the last 5 years in your nominated occupation

  • Satisfy health & character requirements

  • Meet mandatory licensing, registration or membership requirements as applicable

Subclass 494
EMPLOYER SPONSORED REGIONAL (Provisional Visa)

For visa applicants that have an employer in Australia willing to sponsor you for a 'provisional' visa within designated areas of Australia on the basis of your skills, qualifications and experience that cannot be easily sourced in these locations.

Basic Eligibility:

  • Have a regional employer willing to sponsor you 

  • Be under the age of 45 (unless exempt) 

  • Obtain a positive skills assessment for an occupation on the sc494 skills list

  • Have competent English

  • Hold qualifications required for nominated occupation

  • Minimum of 3 years experience in your nominated occupation

  • Satisfy health & character requirements

  • Meet mandatory licensing, registration or membership requirements (where applicable)

This is a 'provisional' visa for a period of 5 years, with the option to apply for permanent residency (PR) after 3 years.  Your employer is not required to sponsor you for PR.

Subclass 400
SHORT STAY WORK (Temporary Visa)

For visa applicants that have an employer in Australia requiring short term and non-ongoing work that requires highly specialised skills that cannot be easily sourced in Australia.

Basic Eligibility:

  • Have an employer willing to invite you

  • Work is short term and non-ongoing

  • You have specialised skills that cannot be reasonably sourced in Australia

  • You genuinely intend to stay in Australia temporarily

  • You have access to sufficient funds for duration of visa 

  • Satisfy health & character requirements

This is a temporary visa that is granted for a period of up to 6 months.  Typically this visa will be granted for 3 months, unless there is a strong business case which supports an extended time

Subclass 408
TEMPORARY ACTIVITY (
Temporary Visa)

This visa is for applicants who come to Australia on a temporary basis (from 3 months to up to 2 years) to perform specific types of work such as sporting or entertainment activities, exchange programs, social/cultural activities, research activities, religious work etc.

Basic Eligibility:

  • Have an employer willing to sponsor or support you (as applicable)

  • You genuinely intend to stay in Australia temporarily

  • Have relevant work experience / qualifications

  • You have access to sufficient funds for duration of your visa 

  • Satisfy health & character requirements

There are numerous 'streams' under which you may fall for the sc408 depending on your occupation and skills.  For visas that are not Covid related (i.e. not the AGEE Stream), the grant period is typically 2 years.

For Covid related visas (AGEE Stream), if you are not employed in a 'critical sector', the period of grant is typically 6 months.  For those working within a 'critical sector' such as aged care, agriculture, child care, disability care, food processing, health care or tourism and hospitality, the visa may be granted for up to 12 months

Subclass 407
TRAINING (Temporary Visa)

This visa is for applicants that would like to take part in work based training to enhance your current skills, or to undertake occupational training for capacity building overseas, or to complete  occupational training required for registration.

This temporary visa is granted for a period of up to 2 years.

Basic Eligibility:

  • Have an employer willing to sponsor and nominate you

  • Be at least 18 years old at time of applying

  • Have at least 12 months work experience in your occupation, or the qualifications required to undertake training

  • Have functional English

  • You genuinely intend to stay in Australia temporarily

  • You have access to sufficient funds for duration of your visa 

  • Satisfy health & character requirements

Subclass 858
GLOBAL TALENT
(Permanent Visa)

Basic Eligibility:

  • Aged between 18-55 (unless exempt)

  • Must have an internationally recognised record of exceptional and outstanding achievement in a profession, sport, arts or academia/research 

  • You are still prominent in the field

  • Have a nominator who can be an individual (Australian citizen, permanent resident or an eligible New Zealand citizen), or an Australian organisation

  • Your nominator must be in a position of expertise in Australia to be able to verify that you have an international reputation in your field of expertise and would be an asset to Australia

  • Satisfy health & character requirements

  • Meet mandatory licensing, registration or membership requirements (where applicable)

Once granted, this is a permanent residency visa

Executives at Work

Subclass 186TRT
EMPLOYER SPONSORED (Permanent Visa)

If you hold a sc457/482 and have been working for your employer full time for 2 years in the last 3, you may be eligible to apply for permanent residency under the Temporary Residence Transition (TRT) Stream

​

Basic Eligibility:

  • Under 45 years old (unless exempt)

  • You hold a sc482 / sc457 visa and your employer is willing to sponsor you for permanent residency

  • You are in Australia and have been employed by your employer for at least 2 years in the last 3 years (unless exemptions apply)

  • Your occupation is on the Medium and Long Term occupation list (MLTSSL)**

  • You have competent English

  • Satisfy health & character requirements

  • Meet mandatory licensing, registration or membership requirements (where applicable)
     

          ** From 1 July 2022, certain 457 and 482 visa holders who have an occupation on the short term skills list (STSOL) may be eligible to apply for permanent residency via the sc186TRT (Temporary Residence Transition Stream).
