RESIDENT RETURN VISA
(5 Years)

This visa is for Australian permanent residents, former permanent residents or former Australian citizens

Basic eligibility:

You have spent at least 2 years in the last 5 as a permanent resident in Australia

If you cannot meet the 2 year residency requirement for the 5 year Return Resident Visa (RRV), you may be eligible for a 1 year RRV if:

Basic eligibility:

You can show substantial business, personal, cultural or employment ties to Australia
You have not been absent from Australia for more than 5 years since the date of your last departure (unless exempt)
You have held permanent residency in the last 10 years

You may also be eligible to apply if you are an immediate family member of a person that meets the criteria for a 5 or 1 year RRV

If you cannot meet the requirements for the 5 or 1 year Return Resident Visa (RRV), you may be eligible for a 3 month RRV if:

Basic eligibility:

You have spent more than 1 day, but less than 2 years in Australia in the last 5 years
You held permanent residency for the entire period you were in Australia

If you are in Australia, you must have 'compelling & compassionate' reasons to leave

If you are outside Australia for more than 3 months, you must show 'compelling & compassionate' reasons for your absence
