Subclass 189
SKILLED INDEPENDANT (Permanent - Points Stream)

The sc189 visa provides immediate permanent residency which allows you to live and work anywhere in Australia once granted. 

You do not need an employer or state sponsor for this visa subclass.

Basic Eligibility:

  • Be under the age of 45 years at the time of application

  • Have a skill on the sc189 occupation skills list

  • Have obtained a positive skills assessment in your occupation

  • Score a minimum of 65 points

  • Meet the requirements for competent English

  • Meet standard health and character criteria

Subclass 189
SKILLED INDEPENDANT
(Permanent - NZ Stream)

The NZ Stream is for eligible New Zealand citizens residing in Australia who would like to apply for permanent residency  (and subsequent citizenship when eligible)

Basic Eligibility:

  • No age restrictions

  • Currently hold a sc444 visa and have resided in Australia for at least the last 5 years

  • Started living in Australia on or before 19 February 2016

  • In the 4 years prior to applying, you have earned at least $53,900 (unless exempt - please contact us for exemptions)

  • Meet standard health and character criteria

​

If you were in Australia on 26 February 2001 holding a sc444, or resident in Australia for at least 12 months in the 2 years before 26 February 2001, you may be a 'Protected SCV Holder'

A permanent residency pathway for Hong Kong (Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China) or British National (Overseas) passport holders

Basic Eligibility:

  • No age restriction

  • Currently hold a sc485, sc482 or sc457 visa

  • Have lived in Australia for at least 4 years

  • Hold a Hong Kong (Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China) or British National (Overseas) passport

  • Meet the requirements for functional English

  • Meet standard health and character criteria
